These work on the same principle as a megaphone. With a megaphone, you speak into the small end and it is amplified out through the large end. This horn amplifies the small speaker that is built into the Phone in the same way.

He contacted me right away and said that it might be late because he is out of town at an art show, however, it arrived earlier than was originally estimated.
